五具足は室町時代に定められた書院飾の一種であり、最も正式で豪奢なものになります。元々は仏前の荘厳であったものが、室町時代に公武の会所における書院飾に採用されました。本尊と脇侍からなる三幅対の掛軸の前方に中央卓を置き、その上に花瓶、香炉、燭台の三具足を配し、更に左右に花瓶一対を飾ります。五具足には、三具足の左右に花瓶一対を飾る例(淳盛『立花図巻』、文阿弥『花伝書』等)と、一対の燭台を左右の花瓶前に置く例(相阿弥『御飾記』等)がありますが、ここでは前者を採用しました。三具足の調度は安土桃山時代以来の伝世品、蝋
燭は当流の門弟でもあり、和蝋燭職人の青蝸エ宙氏が特別に製造してくださいました。華道の誕生した室町時代の風趣を感じてくだされば幸いでございます。

Special exhibition Gogusoku
|
Gogusoku (decoration
of five pieces of furniture) is a type of Shoin decoration
established in the Muromachi period (1336-1573) and is the
most formal and e xtravagant. Originally a decoration for
the front of a Buddhist temple, it was adopted in the Muromachi
period as part of the Shoin decoration for Imperial and
Shogun banquets, consisting of a table in front of a set
of three hanging scrolls on which are p laced three pieces
of furniture (vase, censer and candlestick), with a pair
of vases on either end. There are two types of gogusoku:
a pair of vases on either side of a vase, incense burner
and candlestick (e.g.Junsei, Rikka Zukan; Bun'ami, Kadensho)
and a pair of candlesticks in front of the vases on either
side (e.g. S ? ami, Okazariki), the former type of decoration
has been adopted here. The vase, incense burner and candlesticks
in the centre are from the Azuchi Momoyama period (1568
1603) , and the cand le were specially made by our student
and Japanese candle craftsman Aoyagi Tatsuhiro. We are happy
if you can feel the atmosphere of the Muromachi period ,when
way of ikebana was born.

立活は桂古流独自の呼称で、一般的には生花(せいか)、格花(かくばな)、流儀花とも称されます。江戸時代後期に成立したいけばなの様式で、それ以前から存在した抛入や立華の要素を受け継ぎつつ、新たな床飾の花として誕生しました。用いる花材も少なく、針金を使用しないなど、立華よりは簡略ながら、抛入とは異なって一定の法則を有する点が特徴といえます。天地人の三才格を当てられた三本の枝で構成される三角形の花型が特徴で、
Y 字型の枝(桂古流では「ハズ」と称します)を花留として足元をすっきりとまとめ、水際の美しさを重視します。桂古流独自の花型として、五行思想を取り込んだ五行活などがあります。

Tachi-ike is a
name unique to the Katsura Koryu school and is also commonly
referred to as seika, kakubana or ryugi bana. It is a style
of ikebana established in the late Edo period and was born
as a new type of flower arrangement for the tokonoma (alcove
where art or flowers are displayed), inheriting elements
of nageire and rikka that existed before that time. It is
simpler than rikka, as it uses fewer flower materials and
no wire, but differs from nageire in that it has certain
rule s. It is characterise d by a triangular flower shape
consisting of three branches representing heaven, earth
and people, with a Y-shaped branch (called "hazu"
in the Katsura Ko ryu style) as a fixing device to neatly
organise the lower part, emphasising the beauty of the plants
at the water's edge. Unique to the Katsura Koryu school,
there are flower styles such as 'gogyo ike', which incorporates
the idea of the five elements.

今回の桂古流展では、新たな試みとして絵画といけばなのを試みました。かつて日本家屋の床の間では、掛軸の前に季節の花々が飾られていました。これはそうした絵と花の取り合わせを現代的手法で構築しようとする試みです。今回コラボしますのは世界的に広く注目を集める画家、イケガミヨリユキさんの〈石の声〉。新たな形での絵と花の調和をお楽しみください。

Ikegami Yoriyuki x Katsura Koryu |
In this exhibition
of the Katsura Koryu school, a ne w attempt was made to
combine painting and ikebana. In the past, seasonal flowers
were displayed in front of hanging scrolls in the alcove
of Japanese houses. This is an attempt to construct such
a combination of painting and flowers in a contemporary
way. This time, we will collaborate with Ikegami Yoriyuki,
a painter who is attracting widespread international attention,
for her "The Voice of Stone" (2019). Please enjoy
the harmony of painting and flowers in a new form.
