This is the season
of beautiful greenery in the trees. Thank you very much
for visiting the Katsura Koryu Exhibition today. This is
the first flower exhibition in six years, since the 150th
anniversary exhibition in 2017. All the exhibitors are deeply
grateful to Isetan Urawa for kindly allowing us to hold
the exhibition at the Art Hall again this year.
The art curator for this year's exhibition was Shindo Hakuryu,
Deputy Iemoto. He was involved in the preparatory meetings,
communication with the exhibitors and drawing of the posters.
Please feel the new sensation of the millennium generation.
Youshinsai Hakuryu, founder of the Katsura Kouryu school,
served the Katsura-no-miya(branches of the Imperial Family)
in Kyoto as a floral designer at the end of the Edo period.
In 1897, Iemoto III Meikoan Ike Kaso moved south from Sado
to Urawa, where he established the Iemoto headquarters.
Since then, Katsura Koryu has been active mainly in Saitama
Prefecture.
May is a special month for the Katsura Koryu, as in May
1974 we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the succession
of the 6th Iemoto, Kyusetsuan Kasei, and in May 1992 we
held the Iemoto succession reception for the 7th Iemoto,
Kyusetsuan Kakei, at the Imperial Hotel.
The fact that we were able to hold an ikebana exhibition
and invite everyone to our beloved venue in such a season
with such a deep connection to the school is due to the
presence of successive iemoto and all the students who have
supported the Katsura Ko-ryu school over the years. This
year again, we set up a diverse ikebana display, from the
experts to the high school flower arrangement clubs, as
well as the Northern California branch, which is led by
the deputy iemoto.
The theme of this exhibition is 'Variously Changing Beautiful
Flowers'. Plants change their appearance from moment to
moment. Each time we are grateful to have encountered a
plant, we lovingly shape each branch and flower. We devoutly
listen to the plants and strive to bring out their beauty
to the limit. The branches and flowers respond to our love
with beauty.
We hope that you will enjoy each and every one of our works
as much as time allows.
May,2023.
